Waterloo, Iowa has one historic big thing happening on September 5, 2020. Soul Book Nook, a new black-owned independent bookstore is opening on that weekend in would could be the very first black-owned bookstore in the state of Iowa.
The owner of the Soul Book Nook is book lover Amber Collins, and according to and interview she had with KWWL, it’s always something she’s always wanted to do. Her daughters will help her run the independent bookstore.
Although Soul Book Nook will order books traditionally, it will also accept book donations. This is will be an opportunity for African American independent authors in the area and nationally to gift books to what looks to be a historic site.
