Black Girl Sunscreen, a successful black-owned business founded by Shontay Lundy, has made her a millionaire, and it wasn’t easy. She grew into it, starting from childhood, followed her into college, and it was all those things together that led her to launching Black Girl Sunscreen.
According to the interview she gave Women’s Health Magazine about her time spent working in the corporate world before launching her own business, she “wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. And I would never ask someone to do something that I wasn’t willing to do myself. I’ve brought that same work ethic into my own business.”
One of the things realized was that she needed quit her job, and she also realized that there were nothing for Black girls as far as skin protection. Literally, no one was talking about it or doing it.
She decided to take over in that area and started Black Girl Sunscreen in 2016. Now she’s a millionaire, by increasing her knowledge about black skin and tossing the myth that black people don’t need skin protection.
Her advice for all women in business – take risks, focus, go by your own time and be humble.
