Tennis Legend and BOSS Serena Williams Invests $1.6 Mill In Black-Owned Healthcare Startup

Serena Williams has joined other power players by investing in a new Black owned healthcare start up called HUED.

HUED is founded by Kimberly Wilson in 2018 as a digital health startup out of Washington DC who believes in the protection of Black lives, having the need to protect Black lives being amplified due to the growing pandemic. Since the pandemic hit, the disparities in treatment have been vastly obvious when it comes to Black and Latinx lives, therefore, she set out to fight against the disparities through training healthcare workers on implicit bias and anti-racist practices.

According to HUED, “Hued is a platform that diversifies the patient/doctor connection by connecting patients (of color) with health and medical professionals (of color) that specifically understand their cultural, physical and mental needs. This will give prospective patients easy access to care from people that look like them i.e. ‘hued’ healthcare providers.”

This alone will decrease disparities in Black communities and increase overall better to best care.

Serena Williams invested $1.6 Milllion in the company, throwing much weight behind it because Black health matters and there shouldn’t be a constant struggle to receive and maintain an excellent quality of care simply because of race.

HUED has secured venture capital from not only Serena Williams, her venture fund being Serena Ventures, but also from Female Founders Fund.
