Black Man Empowers Chicago’s Disenfranchised By Founding Bike Club During Pandemic

Xaver Walton lives in the city of Chicago, Illinois, and with all the negative narratives surrounding the disenfranchised communities of the area, he wanted to do something about it. Therefore, he founded the CHICAGO CENTURY CLUB during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to shed a good light on what is going on in Chicago, thus, changing the narrative.

According to Chicago Sun Times, Walton’s idea for the Chicago Century Club was conceived when he decided to join cyclists as they rode through the city. Then, the idea to meet each Thursday of the month came about, riding with friends, visiting Black businesses in the area.

From there, the numbers of cyclists grew and the amount of businesses visited grew until they were traveling up to 100 miles as a group.

This type of empowerment cycling not only helps the group physically while educating each other on and supporting Black businesses, but it helps many mentally as well get through the pandemic.
